Designed by award winning game designer Alan Moon, Elfenland is a reworked version of the now out of print Elfenroads. While Elfenroads was considered a classic amongst serious gamer's it had a problem of being a long game and a bit heavy for novice players. Elfenlands, though some will disagree, is an improvement on the original. It has a much shorter playing time and while a small amount of luck has been introduced it still has a similar feel to Elfenroads. Alan Moon's Elfenland is a lighter game, and much more accessible to casual gamer's and children.
The idea behind the game is to visit as many towns in Elfenland as possible in the course of the game. The winner is the player who has visited the most. Depending on the terrain to be traveled, different forms of transportation are used - Dragons, Unicorns, giant Pigs, elfcycles, troll wagons, magic clouds, ferries and raft. Just to make life more difficult, each player is also given an obstacle token.Ê This can be placed by the player during there travels to make travel harder for players who may follow.
The game is not complex, the mechanics of the game are simple to learn and would take about 30 minutes to teach a new player. And while the game may be simple to play it is not slimplistic, it is a tactical game that requires thought and planning to play well.
This game can be enjoyed by novice gamer's, serious gamer's, older children and adults. It plays in under 90 minutes, it has a lot of replayablity value, each game is different and will be played over and over again. The perfect choice for families and people who just like great board games.
