After being suspended from his job as a waiter at Bryson's Family Treat in Detroit, Michigan, Jason Rusch finds that he is going to fall short on tuition funds for his first term at college. To help pay for it, Jason takes a job as a courier from a local hood, Stevie Golek. En route to the drop, something falls from the sky and hits Jason in his vehicle.Jason finds out that he has been granted the powers of Firestorm, the Nuclear Man. However, to access these powers he needs to merge with another person. He discovers this when he accidentally merges with a drug dealer. Jason learns that when he splits from the dealer he is the only one who remembers their adventures as Firestorm. In order to save himself from the murderous intentions of Stevie Golek, Jason merges with Stevie to become Firestorm again.
